Mualani build Guide: Kit explanation

8

Mualani is a Hydro Catalyst main DPS who relies on her enhanced Normal Attacks to deal damage. Her raw damage is higher than the likes of Ayato and Childe while her team damage can easily rival that of Neuvillette.

Her kit is focused on dealing high single-target damage with her Sharky’s Bites Normal Attacks that scale with her maximum HP stat.

She also has a Nightsoul’s Blessing state where she can ride her Sharky Surfboard to swiftly move in the battle. Let’s have a deeper look into her kit.

Mualani’s Normal Attacks: Cooling Treatment

Level 10 Multipliers
1-Hit DMG 92.51%
2-Hit DMG 80.33%
3-Hit DMG 126.06%
Charged Attack DMG 257.18%
Charged Attack Stamina Cost 50
Plunge DMG 112.34%
Low/High Plunge DMG 224.62% / 280.57%

Mualani’s Normal Attacks are rather uninteresting as is. Without the Elemental Skill, the damage scales off of her attack stat which can only be used to break some Pyro or Electro shields at best.

Holding the attack button launches a Charge Attack that has better scaling than Normals, while the plunge damage is above average for a Limited 5-star character.

Mualani’s Elemental Skill: Surfshark Wavebreaker

Level 10 Multipliers
Sharky’s Bite Basic DMG 52.08% Max HP
Wave Momentum DMG Bonus 13.02% Max HP / Stack
Sharky’s Surging Bite Additional DMG Bonus 39.06% Max HP
Sharky’s Bite CD 2s
Nightsoul Point Limit 60
CD 6s

Now this is where things get interesting. It’s a long skill description but I will provide a Razor Language section to make it easier to digest. So, let’s get started with Mualani’s Elemental Skill explanation:

Upon using Elemental Skill, Mualani gains 60 Nightsoul points and enters the Nightsoul’s Blessing state. During this Nightsoul’s Blessing state, Mualani continuously consumes Nightsoul points and gains the following effects:
  • Mounts her Sharky Surfboard, allowing her to move over water and lava at a high speed.
  • Her Normal Attacks are converted into Sharky’s Bites attacks that deal Hydro damage based on Mualani’s maximum HP. All the Sharky’s Bites damage is considered Normal Attack damage, thereby receiving buffs from Yun Jin.
  • During the Nightsoul’s blessing state (surfing state), any opponent she makes contact with will be marked with a “Marked as Prey” and grant Mualani one stack of Wave Momentum. A maximum of three stacks can be gained this way.

Mualani’s Sharky Bites (Enhanced Normal Attacks) deal increased damage depending on the number of Wave Momentum stacks she has. Once she has three (maximum) stacks of Wave Momentum, Mualani will deal a high-damaging “Sharky’s Surging Bite” attack instead and consume all the Wave Momentum stack.

When a Sharky Bite attack hits an opponent who is “Marked as Prey”, that mark is removed, and Mualani will fire Shark Missiles to 5 nearby opponents, dealing damage to them equal to the Sharky’s Bite attack damage and remove their Marks.

If more than one opponent is the target of Sharky’s Bite and Shark Missiles, the damage dealt will decrease, with 24% being the maximum decrease when at least 3 opponents are targeted.

Mualani’s Elemental Burst: Stormburst Shot

Level 10 Multipliers
Skill DMG 75.75% Max HP
CD 15s
Energy Cost 60

Feels great to read a small description after that long essay explaining Mualani’s Elemental Skill.

Mualani’s Elemental Burst is one simple nuke attack that deals Hydro damage based on Mualani’s maximum HP. The scaling is quite high with a low energy cost, making it fit nicely into Mualani’s kit without worrying about the Energy Recharge stat.

Mualani Build Guide: Talent Overview

9

Talent level-up priority

  • First priority: Elemental Skill
  • Second priority: Normal Attack
  • Third priority: Elemental Burst

This priority is the most obvious choice if you’re using Mualani in Genshin Impact as an on-field Hydro DPS.

While leveling up all the talents to at least 8 is recommended, spending the resources to Crown her Elemental Skill and Normal Attacks could be a great damage boost to your Mualani.

Passive Talent: Night Realm’s Gift: Crests and Troughs

Once she depletes her Nightsouls, Mualani will start using Phlogiston to maintain the Nightsoul’s Blessing state.

When in an area with Phlogiston Devices within Natlan, she can use Nightsoul Transmission: Mualani. When the character is sprinting, swimming, in a movement mode caused by certain Talents, or at a certain height in the air, the following events will trigger when switching to Mualani:

She will enter Nightsoul’s Blessing with 40 Nightsoul points. Then, she can use a Nightsoul Transmission every 10 seconds.

Moreover, Mualani’s Nightsoul or Phlogiston usage while hovering over water in the Nightsoul’s Blessing state is decreased to just 25%  in Natlan and while it is 65% when outside.

Ascension 1 Talent: Heat-Resistant Freshwater Floater

Upon Sharky’s Surging Bite hitting an opponent, a ‘Floater’ will be generated nearby. It’ll allow Mualani to restore 25 Nightsoul upon picking up that Floater. She can only create one Floater at a time.

Ascension 4 Talent: Natlan’s Greatest Guide

When a party member triggers a Nightsoul Burst, Mualani will gain 1 stack of Wavechaser’s Exploits, lasting for 20 seconds. Max 3 stacks.

When she uses Stormburst Shot (Elemental Burst), Mualani will clear all such stacks and increase the DMG of this Stormburst Shot by 20%/30%/40% of her Max HP.

Mualani Build Guide: Best artifacts

7
Artifacts Explanation
4-piece Obsidian Codex (Best in slot) Her best set because of the extra ER from the 2-piece paired with the Elemental Burst damage boost from the 4-piece set.
4-piece Marechaussee Hunter Very good if you don’t have Obsidian Codex or if you’re running Mualani with Furina.
2 Piece Heart of Depth + 2 Piece HP% set Your final option if you really don’t have a good Obsidian Codex set.

Artifact stat priority for Mualani build

Sands: ER% or HP%
Mostly HP Sands on all the time. However, sometimes you can use Elemental Mastery if running Mualani in a reaction-based team.

Goblet: Hydro DMG
Hydro Damage Goblet will deal the most damage but if you don’t have one, an HP one will be fine.

Circlet: Crit DMG / Crit Rate or HP
Generally, Crit will always be better but a very good HP circlet might come on top for your overall damage.

Your substats will focus on Crit Rate/Crit Damage, HP%, and EM.

Mualani Build Guide: Best Weapons

3

Mualani in Genshin Impact scales off of HP stat. This means any high Attack% weapons and artifacts will have zero difference to her damage. Simply put, all the ATK% catalysts are not suitable for Mualani.

In cases of a character like Mualani, the biggest winners are often craftable weapons or 3-star weapons! With that in mind, here are the five best weapons for Mualani in Genshin Impact:

  1. Surfing Time (Mualani’s signature): Specifically designed to work with Mualani, sky-rockets her personal damage.
  2. Tome of the Eternal Flow (Neuvillette’s signature): Neuvillette is an HP scaling DPS, so his weapon fits Mualani perfectly, even better if Mualani is paired up with Furina.
  3. Sacrificial Jade: The HP boost when not in the field is hefty, and very great if you’re using a quick swap team where you switch Mualani often.
  4. Prototype Amber: Flat HP% stat acts as a nice boost to Mualani. However, doesn’t provide much besides that.
  5. Ring of Ceiba: The new HP% craftable catalyst is a big damage boost to Mualani. Unlike the Prototype Amber, The passive can also come in handy.
  6. The Widsith: Flat Crit Damage can be great if you’re running low on CD. Moreover, the Elemental Mastery buff can be great in some reaction-based teams.

Mualani Build Guide: Best Teams

2

Mualani Build Guide: Best Constellations

5

Mualani is very functional even at C0, being one of the strongest damage dealers we have seen in Genshin.

However, if you want to vertically invest in her then getting Mualani to C2 would be a significant damage boost. Here’s a description of Mualani’s constellations in Genshin Impact.

Constellation 1

Mualani’s Nightsoul and Phlogiston consumption during Nightsoul’s Blessing is decreased to 70% while not in combat.
Additionally, the first Sharky’s Surging Bite attack she performs after entering Nightsoul’s Blessing state and the Shark Missiles this Surging Bite attack triggers will deal 75% of her maximum HP as increased damage.

The damage inflicted in such a way is subject to damage decrease caused by Surfshark Wavebreaker.

Constellation 2

Mualani gains two Wave Momentum stacks when she enters the Nightsoul’s Blessing state. She will gain another stack upon picking up a ‘Floater’.

Additionally, the maximum number of Floaters she can generate through Sharky’s Surging Bites in a single use of Nightsoul’s Blessing is increased to two.

Constellation 3

Increases the Level of Surfshark Wavebreaker by 3. The maximum upgrade level is 15.

Constellation 4

Mualani regenerates seven Energy when obtaining a Floater. Must first unlock the Passive Talent “Heat-Resistant Freshwater Floater.” Moreover, Stormburst Shot deals 200% increased DMG.

Constellation 5

Increases the Level of Stormburst Shot by 3. The maximum upgrade level is 15.

Constellation 6

The damage increase effect of Constellation 1 (The Leisurely ‘Meztli’…) can be triggered more than once per Nightsoul’s Blessing.

Sharky’s Surging Bite attack and the Shark Missiles follow-up triggered by it have their CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG increased by 5% and 10% respectively.

Mualani Build Guide: Pull Value & Conclusion

Mualani is a very strong Hydro DPS that can add a lot of value to your Genshin account. The flat 40% Crit Rate from Obsidian Codex for Natlan characters is nothing to sneeze at.

It makes building a high-damaging Mualani relatively easy to build compared to the DPSes we’ve had previously. The movement buffs for traversal are also a very nice quality-of-life upgrade if you don’t have Furina on your team. In short, you can pull for Mualani in Genshin Impact.
